The UCPBA Women’s Mentorship Program

Mentorship Program aims to provide female Mentees the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge of their industry, career development and advancement, and work-life balance from their Mentors. During this inaugural year of the Mentorship Program, Mentors and Mentees will be paired on the basis of their professional backgrounds and career goals in the following professions: law, accounting, finance, business and medicine. The UCPBA Committee will support and coordinate the program throughout the year, as well as provide guidelines and modules to promote effective mentorship.

Mentor Responsibilities

As a Mentor, you will have the opportunity to coach, motivate, empower and give back to the community by helping shape future female leaders. Mentors are asked to attend monthly meetings with their assigned Mentee. Mentors are expected to come to meetings prepared to discuss either the suggested module topic or engage in productive discussions to support the Mentee’s career development. The expected time commitment is at least two hours per month. Mentors are not expected to facilitate job offers or provide reference letters.

Mentees Will Be:

  • screened to ensure serious commitment to the program and the mentoring relationship;
  • required to have at least 3 years of work experience;
  • required to be a member of UCPBA (and pay applicable yearly member fee);
  • responsible for scheduling monthly meetings with the Mentors

Important Dates

The Mentorship Program will run from October 1st, 2021 to September 31st , 2022. A virtual event kick-off hosted by the UCPBA Committee will be held on the evening of September 30th, 2021, and attendance is mandatory to be eligible for the program. The UCBPA Committee will also organize two additional group events throughout the year. The deadline to submit your application is August 31, 2021.

If you’re interested in becoming a mentee, please back reply to womensmentorship@ucpba.ca with the following information:

  1. Your profession, title and industry
  2. How long you’ve been in the workforce (full-time)
  3. Why you want to be part of this program (1-2 sentences)

Our committee will review your request and contact you directly with a decision and next steps.

Season’s Greetings!

On behalf of the Ukrainian Canadian Professional and Business Association of Toronto, I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

2019 was a great year for our organization, thank you very much for your support. All three of our gala events were huge successes this year and all three sold out – the inaugural Tryzub Awards in May, an Evening with Bank of Ukraine Governor Yakiv Smolii at the Albany Club in July, and our annual Yalynka Christmas party at The Old Mill this past month (more on this below). In addition, we also had great attendance at all our monthly professional events, whether it was one of our Ukrainians on Bay Street joint finance events, our Sales Workshop, one of our Knowledge Cafe events with UCSS, or any of our other networking nights, thank you very much for coming and supporting us.

Our Yalynka Christmas party was our most successful in recent years, thank you not only to our sponsors for their support, but also to all of you that attended. We’ve posted a number of photos on our website and on Facebook, please check out www.ucpba.ca or our UCPBA of Toronto Facebook page to see them all (and while you’re there, like our group!).

Wishing you a great 2020, we’re planning many more of the same events this year and we look forward to seeing you all again this year! (and if you have ideas for events you’d like to see us organize, please email contact@ucpba.ca)

Marc Marzotto
President, Ukrainian Canadian Professional and Business Association of Toronto

Evening with the National Bank of Ukraine Governor Smolii

In conjunction with the third annual Ukraine Reform Conference – and thanks to the generosity of platinum sponsor, BCU Financial Group – UCPBA was pleased to host an evening with the Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, Yakiv Smolii, on July 3.

Approximately 125 guests and dignitaries attended the event, held at the wood-paneled and historic Albany Club. Governor Smolii outlined some of the National Bank of Ukraine’s efforts in the past few years: from achieving and maintaining macroeconomic stability, liberalizing monetary policies and continuing co-operation with the International Monetary Fund.

A lively Q&A period followed the formal presentation, in which guests put forth a variety of questions on wide-ranging topics, including how to promote confidence in the Ukrainian banking system, and anti-corruption efforts in Ukraine.

Annual General Meeting

Tuesday October 16, 2018 @ 7:30 pm
UCU Wealth Strategies Office, 2265 Bloor Street West

Attention members – please come out to our AGM on October 16th to meet the board and learn about upcoming events planned for the 2018-2019 year!

A big thank you to all that attended our Yalynka Christmas party on December 9. Once again, we had record attendance! For those that didn’t make it out, hope to see you at next year’s party!

In addition to our attendees, a big thank you to our sponsors for the evening! Thank you to Boris Horodynsky and Horodynsky Farms, who was once again our Presenting sponsor. Thanks also very much to our Gold Sponsors: Funding Matters, Ukrainian Credit Union, Buduchnist Credit Union, and Himelfarb Proszanski. And finally, thanks to the generosity of our door prize sponsors, one in ten of those who attended went home with a bottle of great Ukrainian vodka! Thanks to both Khortytsia Vodka (United Stars) and Zirkova Vodka (Multiculture Bevco Inc).

Thank you to our Ukrainian koliadnyky from Promoteyj, who added a great touch of Ukrainian spirit, the fantastic DJ Unlisted who kept the dance floor moving all night, and lastly, the Albany Club, for providing such a great venue.

UCPBA Women in Business event a huge success

Back in May, UCPBA posted the photo at right from one of our meetings on Facebook. UCPBA member and business owner, Adrianna Stadnyk, spotted something odd: there was only one woman in the photo. Adrianna suggested that we should do more to highlight the successful businesswomen in the Toronto Ukrainian-Canadian community. So we did!

On July 27, UCPBA hosted its first ever Women in Business event. Held at Baka Gallery Cafe, the event was a smashing success as we had a packed house to hear five successful Ukrainian-Canadian women tell their stories:

Thank you to all of our amazing speakers, and to our attendees! Special thank you to Adrianna for holding us accountable, and for volunteering to be one of our first speakers!

We look forward to having this become a regular series. Stay tuned!
